Our background & goals
Collins & Sons Earthmoving and Cartage was established in June 2013 by Paul Collins, his wife Jo and oldest son Sam, with the purchase of a Mustang bobcat, a 3 tonne digger, an Isuzu N series truck and whole lot of determination to build their new business from scratch.
10 Years on, Sam and the team have completed hundreds of civil, commercial and residential projects, large and small. Sam’s qualifications in the building industry and experience bring a wealth of knowledge to the business.
The speed with which Collins & Sons has grown is testament to our original goal of developing a loyal customer base and long term contracts on the strength of our service delivery, customer focus and quality of staff. Now well established, Collins & Sons have integrated themselves into the Cambridge community and surrounding area not only as a highly respected and loyal company to do business with but also as an involved contributor to local community and sport groups.
Meet the Team
Our key operational project team members, Sam Collins and Dave Peters both have many years’ experiences in all aspects of civil construction including road construction and sealing activities.
Sam Collins started his career in the building and construction industry before venturing into the civil construction realm.
As an experienced contractor with 15 years’ experience working in both the civil infrastructure and building construction industries. As the managing director, Sam has not only mentored and trained the majority of our team personally but focuses on long term development and career pathways to grow both our employees and business capabilities.
An effective problem solver and solution focused individual, Sam assesses and evaluates relevant information to make informed decisions, solves problems based on extensive knowledge of construction methodologies and techniques, while thinking outside the box as well to ensure best outcomes.
A multi-skilled and versatile manager and is always interested in taking on more challenging and diverse projects. His drive is to produce optimum results and outcomes for the client and community.
Dave Peters ensures Quality Assurance is maintained throughout the duration of the project. He is adept at liaising with the Engineer and managing day-to-day activities. His enthusiasm and commitment to succeed is translated to the high quality and timely delivery of construction works he manages. He is proactive in solving problems, ensuring technical completeness and competence of the contract staff. This involvement contributes to the assurance of successful financial performance of operations to budget.
The importance of maintaining and improving Safety, Quality and Environmental aspects of performance is effectively conveyed by Dave to works crews and subcontractors, ensuring compliance in all areas.
